Ian Rudgewick-Brown bio picture

Who's Ian Rudgewick-Brown?

Hi there,

It’s really difficult to get to know someone online by just their website, so for that reason I have set up this blog; to give you an incite into my life, my photography and the things that inspire me.

The idea is that my clients, friends and other photographers may enjoy this visual fun ride and get to know me that bit more.

I started my love affair with photography on my 10th birthday when my parents brought me a 110 instamatic camera, it was housed in its own denim case which I wore on my belt…nice!… I was hooked. I wanted to be a photographer.

However, I’ve also been a professional dancer, supermarket shelve stacker, assistant film & television director, trainee airline pilot, burger flipper at Burger King… oh… and also became a gravedigger! Which after this experience of facing death on a daily basis (in the grave digging job or was it Burger King?), you can understand why my photography is all about celebrating Life.

Please feel free to have a good look around and don't hesitate to send me an email through the connect link to tell me more about yourself and what you are looking for!

The Ward Family

Had another lovely day photographing the Ward family from Datchet the other day.
We started off with beautiful 8 week old Tara at their house, then off outside in the woods to chase around 2.5 year old Hugo, great fun! On days like this, outside in the wonderful summer sun, I wonder why I worked so long doing portraits in my studio with no windows!!

“James Martin: Yorkshire’s Finest”

I was asked the other day to shoot some PR shots of James Martin the celebrity chef. Really nice guy, always making some funny comments as he works.

He first started to appear on television in 1996 with various programmes including “James Martin: Yorkshire’s Finest” (set in various Yorkshire locations with an emphasis on Yorkshire cuisine) but came to wider public attention on the BBC 2 programme Ready Steady Cook.

In 2005 Martin was partnered with Camilla Dallerup in Strictly Come Dancing, a celebrity ballroom dancing TV show, coming fourth.

Currently he is the host of ‘Saturday Kitchen’ on BBC 1.

I just wished it was a story about his collection of exotic cars, with a trip to Monaco! oh well never mind…

Dreamy Summer

Had a great photo shoot the other day, I spent most of the time laying on my back! photographing the Shields family in Windsor. This new perspective delivered some interesting images, so maybe I need to lay around more often? Not sure my wife would agree!
These are a few of the photographs from the day.

They run a really successful business called ‘Mum Dad Antenatal’ providing essential advice from pregnancy to parenthood in a fun way, in fact they were a great help to Dawn & I with advice the day before the birth of our son Logan 12 days ago.
Their website is: www.mumdad.info check them out if your a parent to be.

The lazy blogger

I have been a very bad blogger this month by not posting anything, bad boy Ian! This was due to working on various photographic projects and just did not have the time to post anything. I will be posting these images in the future as they develop.
Here are a few images from lifestyle photo sessions I have been doing this week, great weather, great kids, great fun..

Spring Fashion with Mark Heyes GMTV

I was asked by a PR company last week to photograph ‘Spring Style’ at the Oracle, Reading on Friday with Mark Heyes, the style guru on GMTV.

He is a really nice guy and was wearing a great pair of metallic silver baseball boots on the day. I remember at school, (a few years ago!!) one of the guys turned up with a silver pair of Dr Martins which he had spayed himself using his dads silver car paint! I think he was sent home for it? it was as rebellious as hell at the time! now the teachers probably sport something similar. Happy days..

This is a quick slide show movie of some of the images I took that afternoon.

Working in the dark

I was asked by a local gymnastics club to photograph some images for their new website a few days ago. I didn’t know what to expect, so I just took my camera bag and a couple of flash units expecting & hoping to be able to use natural light.
However the venue was a big, very big! dark, and without windows, lit by a few industrial (green toned) flood lights, not the best conditions!!
I introduced myself and was told they needed portrait shots of all 30 students, oh and half of them will leave in 10 mins, if that’s ok with you? So working like a crazy man setting up lights with no time to really think what I was doing, I did it!  just.. in a bit over an hour with the rest of the group. Here are just a few shots to give you the idea. They are a really nice organisation which I’m hoping to run some promotions with in the near future.

More Silver

Just been informed I have been awarded another Silver Award from the SWPP (Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers) for a session I did a few weeks ago of 2 week old Tommy.

I came over all Joyce Tenneson today!

I photographed a wonderful little boy today named Tommy, he is only 2 weeks old and so small!
In these images I was really looking for something different, its so easy in a situation like this to just repeat what you know and shoot in a predictable manner. So with these (the high key ones) I paid homage to the wonderful US photographer Joyce Tenneson, I really wanted to evoke his vulnerability and gentleness, I hope that’s what is communicated in these images.
